Reporting to the Group Finance Director and based in Chichester, the Management Accountant will lead a small team preparing Management Accounts, Budgets, Forecasts, and Management Information for the Executive Directors and Depot managers.

The ideal candidate will be a part-qualified accountant used to handling significant data volumes and looking to further their career in a fast-paced commercial environment within a progressive family-owned business.

The successful applicant's duties will include:


· Production of monthly management accounts

· Sales and margin reporting

· Work with Depot Managers and Exec Directors to identify causes of variances / opportunities for savings

· Balance sheet reporting and reconciliation

· Maintenance of the nominal ledger

· Calculation of prepayments and accruals and posting journals

· Nominal account reconciliations

· Control account and inter group account reconciliations

· Budget preparation

· VAT and Tax compliance

· Bad debt reconciliations / sales ledger write-offs and associated VAT reclaims

· Debtor day analysis

· Calculation of Ratios, Statistics and KPIs

· Preparation of monthly and quarterly Board packs

· Development and implementation of new accounting packages as necessary

Line Management Duties:

Line Management of the Accounts Team, to include quarterly performance reviews


· Preparation of monthly bank reconciliations

· Coding of overhead invoicing for posting to nominal ledger

· P11D preparation and issue and payment of Class 1A NICs

· Covers group VAT calculations and returns

· Fixed asset register maintenance

· Online banking treasury postings

· Intrastats and other statutory ONS return

· Company bonus scheme calculations

· Ensure integrity of postings to all main ledgers

Knowledge and Skills Required:

· Excellent communication skills at all levels

· Advanced Excel user

· Experience with “cubes” or other data analysis tools

· Part qualified CIMA/ACCA/ACA or QBE

· Previous VAT experience

· Ability to work to deadlines

· Ability to manage and work as part of team

· Full driving licence

NB while Chichester based, during the current pandemic, the role will partly involve working from home
